Will I have time to play?
I attended 3 lectures in the last 2 days out of the 4 courses that I'm doing. Because the system is different, and because I'll only be here till Dec, I have to write an additional essay for each course on top of the usual term paper that everyone has to write. All in all, it will be 4500 words for each course, which makes it 18 000 words for 4 courses. Oh but did I tell you that the term here only lasts for 10 weeks? So I have to finish the 8 essays in 10 weeks and that gives me VERY little time considering that most of the time, you need to go through a certain no. of lects before you can do anything at all. (Those in uni i'm sure you know what I mean...)
Which brings me to the question - will I have time to travel and play? Since I'm all the way in London, I should make full use of the opportunity right? Our dear friend Mark Twain once said, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness". Travel, as we can see, is a great source of knowledge too!
I know this is going to sound very cliché but I really only appreciate the comfort of my own home when I'm away from it. You see, with the weight of my luggage in mind, I decided that I would bring bar soap to London instead of the usual liquid soap which I use at home. I have been using it for 9 days now and well, somehow I just don't feel quite clean after my bath. I think it's partly psychological. Today when I was out at a store, I saw a 1 litre bottle of liquid soap selling for 49p! That's about $1.60!! Things are well, needless to say, REALLY EXPENSIVE here...many times even before you convert it. So seeing such a good deal, how could I say 'no' right? :)
For the past 2 days, I had soup (and other stuff) for dinner. Cooked it together with friends and all and I've decided that soup is a good dish to cook especially for people like me who well, can't quite cook. Coz all you need to do is prepare the ingredients and put it in water to boil. But hey, both days it tasted pretty good ok. (老王在卖瓜...) Next week, I'm gonna eat in more often coz eating out really burns deep into your pockets.
According to the latest annual cost of living survey released by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, London is the 2nd most expensive city in the world. If this survey rings true, I wouldn't want to try Tokyo man...
